In the Wild
Habitat
Terrestrial and diurnal. Open woodland, savannah, grassland and scrub across northern Australia; shelters under logs, leaf litter and debris.
Wild Diet
Omnivore — snails, insects and carrion, plus fruit, flowers and greens.
Captive Care
Temperature
Basking 35 – 40 °C; ambient 26 – 30 °C; cool end 24 °C.
Humidity
40 – 60 %. A water bowl plus a humid hide; well ventilated, not damp.
UV Requirements
Moderate–high (diurnal basker). UVI 3 – 5. A T5 6 – 10 % UVB is recommended.
Feeding
Varied omnivore mix — leafy greens and vegetables with insects (snails, roaches, crickets), occasional lean meat or quality wet dog food, and fruit. Calcium-dusted, 2 – 3× weekly for adults.
Enclosure
Large floor-space terrestrial enclosure, min 120 × 60 cm. Deep substrate for digging, a flat basking surface and hides at both ends.
Temperament
Calm, confident and one of the most handleable lizards once settled. The "Northern" (intermedia) is the largest, boldest-patterned blue-tongue, with strong orange-brown banding.
Origin
Not found in the wild in Thailand. Native range: Northern Australia.
