Non-venomous. A large flat-backed (polydesmid) millipede that defends with hydrogen cyanide and benzaldehyde (almond-scented) secretion from lateral ozopores — can stain and irritate skin/eyes. Wash hands after handling.

Humid tropical forest floor; lives in deep leaf litter, under logs and in decaying wood. Sold from Thailand as a large armoured flatback. 0 – 1,200 m.

Detritivore — decaying leaf litter, rotting wood and fungi. Forest-floor recycler.

22 – 27 °C ambient — 21 °C cool end

75 – 85 %. Keep substrate evenly moist with good ventilation.

None required (nocturnal).

Decaying hardwood leaf litter and rotten wood as staple; supplement with cuttlebone calcium, vegetables and a little fish-flake protein.

Terrestrial; 10 – 12 cm of moist leaf-and-wood substrate with bark hides. Communal. Min 30 × 30 cm for this larger flatback.

Docile and slow; coils and releases defensive fluid when alarmed. Handle minimally due to cyanide secretion.
