📏
Adult Length
40 – 60 cm (including tail)
Venom
Non-venomous and safe to handle (the genus carries only a harmless venom trace of no medical significance).
🌿
Habitat
Terrestrial and diurnal. Arid to semi-arid woodland, scrub and rocky desert across central Australia. A confident basker that climbs onto rocks and low branches.
🐁
Wild Diet
Omnivore — mostly insects and small invertebrates when young, shifting toward leaves, flowers and fruit with age.
🌡
Temperature
Basking 38 – 42 °C; ambient 28 – 32 °C; cool end 24 – 26 °C; night drop to ~20 – 24 °C.
💧
Humidity
30 – 40 %. Dry and very well ventilated with a water bowl; sustained high humidity causes respiratory and skin problems.
UV Requirements
Very high (obligate desert basker). UVI 4 – 6. A strong T5 10 – 12 % UVB across the basking zone is mandatory.
🍽
Feeding
Juveniles: gut-loaded, calcium-dusted insects (crickets, dubia roaches) daily plus finely chopped greens. Adults: mostly leafy greens and vegetables with insects 2 – 3× weekly.
📦
Enclosure
Large terrestrial enclosure, min 120 × 60 × 60 cm for an adult. Basking rock/branch under the UVB + heat, a cool retreat, and a non-impaction substrate.
🤚
Temperament
One of the calmest, most handleable and beginner-friendly lizards — tolerant, hardy and interactive. The "Leatherback" trait reduces scale size for a smoother look and more vivid colour — here showing striking blue-grey barring.

Not found in the wild in Thailand. Native range: Central Australia.
