In the Wild
Habitat
Arboreal and diurnal. Tropical and subtropical forest, plantations and around dwellings in northern Madagascar; lives high on tree trunks, bamboo and walls.
Wild Diet
Insects, plus nectar, pollen, fruit juices and soft over-ripe fruit.
Captive Care
Temperature
Basking 30 – 32 °C; ambient 26 – 28 °C; cool end 24 °C; night drop to ~22 °C.
Humidity
60 – 80 %. Mist once or twice daily; they drink droplets off leaves and glass.
UV Requirements
High (diurnal basker). UVI 2 – 4. A T5 6 % UVB across the basking zone is important.
Feeding
Gut-loaded crickets and roaches dusted with calcium + D3, plus a commercial day-gecko nectar/fruit mix 2 – 3× weekly.
Enclosure
Tall, planted, bioactive arboreal terrarium, min 45 × 45 × 60 cm. Vertical bamboo/branches, broad-leaved plants and good ventilation.
Temperament
Bold and active but not a handling species — the skin tears easily and they are very fast. A brilliant emerald-green display gecko with red dorsal markings.
Origin
Not found in the wild in Thailand. Native range: Madagascar.
