Venom
Old-World tarantula with no urticating hairs. Medically significant venom — a bite causes intense local pain, swelling and muscle cramping. No anti-venom; not a beginner species.
In the Wild
Habitat
Lowland and hill evergreen rainforest of peninsular southern Thailand (the Khao Sok form, Surat Thani). Fossorial — digs deep vertical silk-lined burrows to 30 – 40 cm. 0 – 600 m.
Wild Diet
Insects, other arthropods and the occasional small vertebrate. Nocturnal ambush predator that strikes from its burrow mouth.

Temperature
26 – 30 °C ambient — 24 °C cool end
Humidity
75 – 85 %. Keep deep substrate lightly moist with a water dish; allow good ventilation to prevent stagnant air.
UV Requirements
None required (nocturnal).
Feeding
Crickets, roaches and locusts. Slings 2 – 3× weekly; adults every 7 – 10 days.
Enclosure
Fossorial — 15 – 20 cm of packed moist substrate over a 25 × 25 cm footprint, with a cork-bark hide and starter burrow. Heavy webber.
Temperament
Highly defensive, fast and reluctant to surface. Will throw a threat posture and bite if cornered. Not a handling species.
