Old-World tarantula with no urticating hairs. Medically significant venom — bite produces intense local pain, swelling and cramping. No anti-venom; not for beginners.
In the Wild
Habitat
Lowland and hill evergreen rainforest of peninsular southern Thailand, also reaching Myanmar and northern Malaysia. Fossorial — deep vertical silk-lined burrows. 0 – 600 m.
Wild Diet
Insects, other arthropods and occasional small vertebrates. Nocturnal ambush predator.

Temperature
26 – 30 °C ambient — 24 °C cool end
Humidity
75 – 85 %. Deep substrate lightly moist with a water dish; good ventilation.
UV Requirements
None required (nocturnal).
Feeding
Crickets, roaches and locusts. Slings 2 – 3× weekly; adults every 7 – 10 days.
Enclosure
Fossorial — 15 – 20 cm of packed moist substrate over a 25 × 25 cm footprint, with a cork hide and starter burrow. Heavy webber.
Temperament
Defensive, fast and reluctant to surface; bites readily when cornered. Not a handling species.
