Venom
Old-World tarantula with no urticating hairs. Medically significant venom — bite causes strong local pain, swelling and cramping. Fast, defensive; advanced keepers only.
In the Wild
Habitat
Undescribed earth tiger native to the forests of Vietnam, named for its metallic silver-grey sheen. Fossorial — digs deep silk-lined burrows.
Wild Diet
Insects and other arthropods. Nocturnal burrow-mouth ambush predator.
Captive Care
Temperature
24 – 28 °C ambient — 22 °C cool end
Humidity
75 – 85 %. Deep substrate lightly moist with a water dish; good ventilation.
UV Requirements
None required (nocturnal).
Feeding
Crickets, roaches and locusts. Slings 2 – 3× weekly; adults every 7 – 10 days.
Enclosure
Fossorial — 15 – 20 cm of moist substrate over a 25 × 25 cm footprint with a cork hide. Webs heavily.
Temperament
Reclusive but very defensive and fast; bites if disturbed. Observational only.
Origin
Not found in the wild in Thailand. Native range: Vietnam.
