Venom
Old-World fossorial tarantula with potent, medically significant venom and no urticating hairs. A defensive bite gives intense pain, swelling and cramping.
In the Wild
Habitat
From the Tay Nguyen central highlands of Vietnam (formerly traded as Ornithoctoninae sp. "Vietnam Highland", now described as Magnacrus taynguyenensis). A burrower of cool, humid highland forest.
Wild Diet
Nocturnal burrow ambusher of insects and other arthropods; large adults take small vertebrates.

Temperature
23 – 27 °C ambient — 21 °C cool end (cooler highland origin)
Humidity
78 – 88 %. Keep substrate moist with a drier surface; water dish and ventilation.
UV Requirements
None required (nocturnal).
Feeding
Crickets, roaches and locusts. Slings every 4 – 5 days; adults every 7 – 10 days.
Enclosure
Fossorial, 15 – 20 cm of moist packed substrate for deep burrows, cork-bark start-hole and water dish. 25 × 25 cm footprint.
Temperament
Very fast, defensive and reclusive. Experienced keepers only; strictly no handling.
Origin
Not found in the wild in Thailand. Native range: Vietnam.
