Venom
Old-World venom — no urticating hairs. Medically significant: a bite causes severe local pain, swelling and prolonged muscle cramping. A very defensive species; treat with great care.
In the Wild
Habitat
Lowland forest of Thailand and Myanmar. A fossorial earth-tiger with silvery-grey carapace and legs that builds deep silk-lined burrows in forest soil. 0 – 700 m.
Wild Diet
Insects and other arthropods ambushed at the burrow mouth; large adults take small vertebrates. Nocturnal sit-and-wait predator.

Temperature
26 – 30 °C ambient — 24 °C cool end
Humidity
75 – 85 %. Keep deep substrate moist with a drier surface; water dish and good ventilation.
UV Requirements
None required (nocturnal).
Feeding
Crickets, roaches and locusts. Slings every 4 – 5 days; adults every 7 – 10 days.
Enclosure
Fossorial — 15 – 20 cm of packed moist substrate for deep burrows, with a cork-bark starter hide. Min 25 × 25 cm footprint.
Temperament
Highly defensive, extremely fast, quick to threat-pose and bite. Strictly hands-off; advanced keepers only.
