Old-World tarantula with potent, medically significant venom — no urticating hairs, defence is a fast bite. A bite causes intense pain, swelling and muscle cramping; treat with great respect.

Undescribed earth tiger from the cool, humid highland forests of Vietnam. A fossorial species living in deep, silk-lined burrows under leaf litter and root mats.

Insects and other arthropods ambushed at the burrow mouth at night; large adults take the occasional small vertebrate.

75 – 85 %. Keep the lower substrate damp with a drier surface; provide a water dish and good ventilation.

None required (nocturnal).

Slings: flightless fruit flies and micro-crickets every 4 – 5 days. Adults: crickets, roaches and locusts every 7 – 10 days.

Fossorial set-up with 15 – 20 cm of deep, packed moist substrate for burrowing, a cork-bark start-hole and water dish. 25 × 25 cm footprint for adults.

Extremely fast, defensive and reclusive — spends nearly all its time underground. Advanced keepers only; strictly no handling.
