Venom
Non-venomous. Enlarged rear teeth (kukri-shaped) used to slit reptile eggs — not for envenomation.
In the Wild
Habitat
Terrestrial. Open scrubland, grassland, gardens, rice paddies and forest edges. 0 – 1,500 m. Found throughout Thailand.
Wild Diet
Reptile eggs (specialist). Also small lizards and occasionally invertebrates.
Captive Care
Temperature
24 – 28 °C ambient — 22 °C cool end
Humidity
50 – 65 %. Light misting 2× per week.
UV Requirements
Low to moderate (crepuscular). UVI 0.5 – 1.5.
Feeding
Reptile or quail eggs. Small skinks or lizards as alternative. Every 5 – 7 days.
Enclosure
Terrestrial. Min 60 × 45 × 30 cm. Cork bark hides and sandy substrate for egg-burying behaviour.
Temperament
Generally docile and calm. Easy to maintain. Good species for intermediate keepers.
