Old-World tarantula with no urticating hairs. Medically significant venom — bite causes strong local pain, swelling and cramping. Defensive; not a beginner species.

Tropical lowland and hill forest of Thailand and adjacent Southeast Asia. Fossorial/opportunistic burrower under logs, roots and leaf litter. Iridescent blue-purple legs with bold dark zebra striping.

Insects and other arthropods. Nocturnal sit-and-wait predator at the burrow entrance.

25 – 29 °C ambient — 23 °C cool end

70 – 80 %. Keep substrate lightly moist with a water dish and good ventilation.

None required (nocturnal).

Crickets, roaches and locusts. Slings 2 – 3× weekly; adults every 7 – 10 days.

Fossorial — 12 – 18 cm of moist substrate over a 25 × 25 cm footprint, with a cork hide and starter burrow. Webs heavily.

Skittish and defensive; fast, prefers to bolt into the burrow. Not for handling.
