In the Wild
Habitat
Widespread across Thailand and SE Asia in dry forest, scrub and rocky ground. Bark- and crevice-dweller, often under loose bark and stones. 0 – 1,000 m.
Wild Diet
Insects and small arthropods. Nocturnal active forager and ambusher.
Captive Care
Temperature
26 – 30 °C ambient — 24 °C cool end
Humidity
50 – 65 %. Largely dry with a small damp corner; excellent ventilation essential.
UV Requirements
None required (nocturnal).
Feeding
Crickets and small roaches. Every 5 – 7 days.
Enclosure
Semi-arid set-up with cork-bark slabs for climbing/hiding, dry substrate and a water dish. 20 × 20 cm. Keep singly — buthids are not reliably communal.
Temperament
Fast, alert and quick to sting if cornered. Strictly hands-off; experienced keepers only.
