Adult Length

Venom
Non-venomous. Harmless, but large adults have powerful jaws, claws and a tail whip — handle with respect.
In the Wild
Habitat
Arboreal and diurnal. Tropical rainforest canopy near rivers in Central and South America; basks high in the trees and dives into water when threatened.
Wild Diet
Strict herbivore — leaves, flowers and fruit.
Captive Care
Temperature
Basking 40 – 45 °C; ambient 29 – 32 °C; cool end 26 °C. High ambient warmth is essential.
Humidity
70 – 90 %. Daily misting and a large water bowl; good airflow to prevent scale rot.
UV Requirements
Very high (obligate basker). UVI 4 – 7. A strong T5 10 – 12 % UVB is mandatory for healthy bone.
Feeding
Strictly herbivorous salad — collard, mustard and dandelion greens, squash and mixed vegetables with limited fruit, calcium-dusted. Fed daily while growing. Never feed animal protein.
Enclosure
Very large arboreal enclosure for adults (min ~180 × 90 × 180 cm). Stout climbing branches, a basking platform, powerful UVB and a heat source.
Temperament
Intelligent and can become tame with daily handling, but adults are large, strong and seasonally territorial — an advanced, long-term commitment. The albino (amelanistic) morph is pale lemon-yellow to creamy white with pink-red eyes and no green pigment.
Origin
Not found in the wild in Thailand. Native range: Central and South America (Mexico to Brazil and Paraguay).
