Venom
Old-World venom — no urticating hairs. Medically significant: a bite causes severe pain, swelling and prolonged muscle cramping. One of the more defensive Asian species; treat with great care.

Habitat
Lowland and monsoon forest of mainland Southeast Asia. A deep-burrowing fossorial species that lines its retreat with silk. Uniform glossy black-brown adults. 0 – 700 m.

Insects, other arthropods and small vertebrates ambushed from the burrow. Nocturnal sit-and-wait predator.
