Old-World venom — no urticating hairs. Medically significant: severe local pain, swelling and muscle cramps. A very defensive species; treat with great care.

Trade "Big Black" form of Cyriopagopus minax (often labelled "full black" Ornithoctonus). Lowland and monsoon forest of mainland SE Asia; a deep-burrowing fossorial species with uniform glossy black adults. 0 – 700 m.

Insects, arthropods and small vertebrates ambushed from the burrow mouth. Nocturnal sit-and-wait predator.

75 – 85 %. Deep moist substrate with a drier surface; water dish and good ventilation.

None required (nocturnal).

Crickets, roaches and locusts. Slings every 4 – 5 days; adults every 7 – 10 days.

Fossorial — 15 – 20 cm of packed moist substrate for deep burrows, with a cork-bark starter hide. Min 30 × 30 cm footprint.

Highly defensive, extremely fast, quick to threat-pose and bite. Strictly hands-off; advanced keepers only.
