📏
Adult Length
Body 3 – 4.5 cm; leg span up to ~25 cm across the antenniform legs
Venom
Non-venomous and harmless — no venom glands and no sting. The spined pedipalps can grip and prick if grabbed, but the animal is not dangerous to people.
🌿
Habitat
Large, blackish whip spider of west-Thai rainforest, recorded from limestone caves around Kanchanaburi (e.g. Tham Wang Badan, Tham Lawa). Clings to cave walls, rock and tree bark in the cool, humid twilight zone.
🐁
Wild Diet
Crickets, roaches, cave moths and other arthropods, struck with the raptorial pedipalps. Nocturnal/cave ambush predator guided by the antenniform legs.
🌡
Temperature
23 – 27 °C ambient — 21 °C cool end (slightly cool, cave-influenced)
💧
Humidity
80 – 90 %. High humidity with damp substrate and good airflow; mist frequently.
UV Requirements
None required (cave-dwelling / nocturnal). Keep dim.
🍽
Feeding
Crickets and roach nymphs every 5 – 7 days; offer prey on the vertical surface where it perches.
📦
Enclosure
Tall arboreal enclosure with vertical cork-bark/rock for clinging and molting clearance (height ≥ 2 × leg span). 4 – 6 cm moist substrate; min 25 × 25 × 35 cm. Tolerates communal housing with ample space and food.
🤚
Temperament
Nervous and quick, retreats and flattens against surfaces rather than standing ground. Harmless but fragile — a display species, not for handling.
